What Changed, What to Check & How to Adopt
What’s New
Valcre is expanding support for job numbering formats. Previously, only simple alphanumeric or numeric formats triggered automatic incremental numbering. With this update, a much wider range of formats - including those incorporating prefixes, years, locations, and custom separators - are now fully recognized and supported.
Your existing job numbers will not be changed. This update only affects how future job numbers are created.
New Supported Job Number Formats
The following formats are now recognized and will trigger automatic incremental numbering. In the examples below, LAX and SYN represent sample office or firm identifiers. These are just illustrations of how an alphanumeric prefix might be used. Your prefix can represent anything meaningful to your workflow; you are not limited to office or firm codes.
| LAX-0001 | LAX.2025.0001 |
| LAX25-0001 | LAX2025-0001 |
| LAX-25-0001 | LAX-2025-0001 |
| SYN-LAX-25-0001 | SYN-LAX-2025-0001 |
| 25-0001 | 2025-0001 |
| 25LAX-0001 | 2025LAX-0001 |
Legacy Formats (Still Supported)
If you are already using one of the original formats below, nothing changes; incremental numbering will continue to work as it always has:
| Format Type | How to Enter | Example |
| Alphanumeric | Letters + hyphen + starting number | ABC-17001 → ABC-17002, ABC-17003… |
| Numerical | Starting number only — no hyphens | 20571 → 20572, 20573… |
Are You Impacted?
Ask yourself: are you currently using a custom job numbering system that does NOT match the legacy formats above? If yes: great news. You can now adopt a supported format and gain automatic incremental numbering.
|
✅ You are NOT impacted if: Your job numbers already follow a legacy format (e.g. ABC-17001 or 20571). Incremental numbering will continue exactly as before. ⚠️ You should take action if: You have been manually tracking job numbers in your own system because the previous format didn’t fit your workflow. This update is designed for you. |
How to Adopt From Day One
To start benefiting from automatic incremental numbering with your new format, follow these steps:
Choose a job number format from the supported list above that fits your workflow.
Enter your first job using that format.
Continue entering jobs in the same format. Valcre looks at your last 10 job numbers to detect the pattern and activate auto-incrementing.
After 10 jobs in your new format, Valcre will automatically generate the next number for you.
|
You do not need to renumber past jobs. Simply start using your preferred format going forward. Existing job records are unaffected. |
How Valcre Recognizes Your Format
Valcre uses the following logic to intelligently parse your job numbers:
Year detection: Years can be expressed as either 2 digits (e.g., 25) or 4 digits starting with 20 (e.g., 2025). Valcre identifies them by looking for either format appearing consistently across your recent jobs.
Job number detection: Job sequence numbers are identified as 3 or more consecutive digits. You can use any digit length as long as it meets that minimum (e.g., 001, 0001, 00001). Leading zeros are supported and will be preserved as your numbers increment. If 4-digit numbers are present, Valcre checks the repeating pattern to determine whether it’s a year or a job number.
Manual override: You can always override the auto-generated number and type whatever you like. Best practice is to stick to a consistent format to avoid errors.
Great News for Portfolio Work
This enhancement is especially beneficial if you manage portfolios. Consistent, structured job numbers make it significantly easier to group, search, and track related jobs across a portfolio - saving time and reducing manual effort.
